one more thing to point out - if your going to shred printed papers.
The inks and Dyes can harm a gerbil - not to mention the glue used to seal
those letters.

If you want to make material - hand shredding is the best way - or try this
trick

Take e plain old unprinted news print paper - and shred it, but - soak it
over night in water deep enough to cover it completely , then using an old
screen - pour it into the screen it self - the screen needs to be on a
support - not in a bath tub (unless you want to spend money of unclogging
the pipes). Do it over a clean trash barrel.

Then when all the paper is caught - crumble it up - and let dry, keep
turning the paper over for a while - till it is fully dry. To make sure all
is dry - take a piece of the paper and break it, if it breaks open and feels
dry - then the gerbils can use it to make a nest.

Just an IDEA for those who like to recycle.

Subject: Paper Shredder

I was thinking about investing in a paper shredder to recycle my paper items
like mail, duplicate bills (I wouldn't mind the originals either! )
junk mail, etc into nesting/bedding material for gerbils. Has anyone done
this? If we don't put newspaper products (w/dyes etc) into it wouldn't it
work?

Susan
