From what I have seen personally, I havent had any problems with
2 females and 1 male. The females have either been sisters, or introduced
very very young. They have ALL had litters, and i havent had problems. Now im
not saying one is wrong..there is always the chance of fighting.
Ive noticed that two females paired..will usually go into heat at
the same time..and become pregnant. Now, they do STEAL pups, and nurse, but
its usually when the other mother goes and starts digging in the corner.
After digging for what ever amount of time..she comes back, and takes her
pups back....no dispute..or fighting.
Again, not saying Im right, and anyone is wrong, there is always a
chance fro fighting....but Im around my gerbils constantly checking on them,
and I keep tabes, and check on them, so if any trouble starts, it can be
fixed in a hurry.
Now,Im not sure if I like 4 males and a female. I had a similar set
up very recent, and when the female went into heat, it was battle royal...the
males were fighting with each other, biting..constantly to mate with her..so
Im not sure if thats a good idea. Once I removed her, they were all buddies
again and have been since.
Thats my 2 cents and everyone can pull their hair out now!! Take
care and good night!
