I think I remember ages ago hearing there was some person or rat fancier
organization that had decided to rename rats "raffins" due to the bad
connotation of the name. So they're probably just rats, albeit tailless, dumbo
ones. But I could be wrong. Probably a ratty expert will step in here and
correct me =)
