Gerbils do die of old age – but it is the age that triggers something that does them in – very much like humans.

In the wild – gerbils do not live as long as in captivity – so they do not have to worry about health issues- because the predators weed out the weak ones before they can cause problems with the clans.

Subject: Gerbil Deaths?

Hi List,

I was just wondering...over this list  is seems like the majority of posts are about gerbils with health problems. I read about turmors, cysts, ear infections, respotory infections, etc... I would just like to know if gerbils ever die of just old age?
