Mealworms come in different sizes. My gerbils can only manage the smallest
ones. The outside of ghe bigger ones are too tough for them to manage
unless the mealworms are killed first. Also the small beetles are fairly
innocuous and the gerbies will eat them if you squash them first. However,
the large mealworms do turn into rather large beetles that make you think of
cockroaches.
