Hi all !
Our Laureen gave birth to 4 healthy pups this morning !
Please add them to pup count !
Unfortunately another 3 died ....
I just removed them from the nest ...
... and now problems - yesterday evening we separated her
from "the boys" (her partner Otto and their 6 month old son Nutty)
to stop further 'em mate again (we practiced this a few times before
- sucessfully) ... But after spending whole morning (mostly sleeping)
together the boys started fighting - not badly but still - they catch each
other, and as soon as one is on the ground they stop but a few seconds
after they do it again, and although they usually play like this was getting
more and more serious especiall when they just stand in front of each
other look viciously at each otehr and then gram themselves - thouch they
never curled into a ball - as soon as one is down they'd stop !
... When we put Laureen back for a moment - Otto starts digging in
corner like mad, and Nutty tries to mate her.
... As soon as we put her back to the pups the boys start fighting
again which usually ends with Nutty hiding in cardboard tube and Otto
chewing everything that comes in front of him (i.e. cardboard tubes) ...
So we had to separate the boys ... for a few hours .
We put the boys together again and the things are better now
(not for me while I just discovered those 3 dead pups (one of them
was runt which makes me even more sad while we always liked runts
a bit more than the others (so probably those were the last 3 ...))
... All of pups that our gerbils got (4 litters) survived so this is a
pretty much sad moment .. we only hope that the rest will survive .
