Parents will often split pups up into two nests, especially if it's a
big litter.  Usually the mother will go back and forth between the two
nests nursing, and the father stays with whichever one she isn't in, and
keeps them warm ... hope I'm making some sense here as I'm really tired.
:)  Unless it looks like they aren't getting fed I wouldn't worry about
it.  Sounds like you have a good gerbil daddy who's helping take care of
them.
