This is very true with gerbils of all ages. They love to roll in the sand!!
It also cuts back cleaning if you just dump the sand when it has a lot of
droppings. my gerbils wont go anywhere to eliminate except for their sand
box. chinchilla dust is their favorite to roll in, but i only use it 1x a
month because it is so expensive($10 a jar)
