Just wanted to say Hello to my gerbil loving friends,
Right now my husband and I are down to 2 cages of gerbils... for a while. We are expecting a new breeding pair soon. That should be exciting... I am hoping we finally have some real special gerbils for the pet store lady here in Washington. The pet stores here seem to not have many gerbils or if they do, they are bought up right away. She's a nice pet store lady that made sure our last 4 babies we gave her went in pairs. (o: I find myself wondering how they are doing and if they are happy and all that mushy kind of stuff.
Our 1 cage is my wonderful Gerbie that braved the great outdoors before I spotted her last summer. That's what started this whole gerbil "thing" in my house. I didn't even know what a gerbil was. Gerbie is a sweetie pie and apparently Siamese colored we found out. Her cagemate, Jin, our little black guy with white down his chin and tummy is doing great also. He adores Gerbie and Gerbie also adores herself. She can boss him around and he is "okay" with pretty much anything she demands... however, sometimes we think we see him sitting up high on his block of wood with a pouty look on his face.
The "other" cage has the "evil Dot's" babies in it who are about 8 weeks old now (I think). I am happy they didn't go to pet store, as Bambi is a runt and NOT a girl like we thought, and the other little girl is like her Mom -- psycho baby and no matter how hard I try, she seems to be a neurotic mess of a gerbil (something wrong in her little brain). Since they are siblings, I guess it's okay, but they can't stay together as I don't want pups from them. Thumper is the bad temperament one -- the female. I am thinking of a way to get Bambi a better cagemate who is less skittish and also a boy soon because I am afraid he will start picking up on Thumper's crazy antics and so far he seems to be a "good" boy. So he gets to come out and play every day. Thumper doesn't get to come out unless I have gloves on and it's just a quick "transfer" from place to place. Other than that, I don't really want to mess with her anymore.
That's the update here at Gerbie's house! We love you guys and anxiously await our "new" gerbils. The colors? I'm not good at colors yet, but I think my husband said Siamese and a grey?
Shelley
