spilt them or not?

Okay I have this nice little clan of gerbils. I have one breeding pair and
four two month old pups and one fourth month old pup. I wanted to spilt
them up and give the poor old mamma gerbil a break, but I didn't and she
has had another four pups! Can I take some of them out of there? I want to
give mom a break from litters. I know she has already been bred again too.
Best advice for this situation please!
