I don't chase my gerbils around the tank, but with
pups and gerbils that don't climb right onto me I
first remove all boxes, etc. from the tank, I lay my
hand palm up in the tank for a few minutes, then move
my hands very slowly towards them until they are in
the corner and scoop them up. After a couple of
minutes I put them back. Soon they make the
association of my scooping them up and some
out-of-the-tank time.

Many of my gerbils (esp girls) scramble right up my
arm and out of the tank, but others though they don't
move away from my hands, I still have to scoop up to
take out.
