Call around to your local pet shops and reptile specialists and ask if they have any pinkie mice. Foster about three of these to the gerbil mom and she will be able to produce enough milk to raise all the babies.

Subject: only one pup

Hi everyone;

A few months ago our female gerbil - Mini - gave birth to two pups. One of the pups died the day after and there was only one pup left. We knew no one else with gerbils and it was the only pair we had. So the only option we could see was to help the pup as much as we could. We called a vetenarian and an "animal emergency" and were told to feed the pup with milk replacement. We did so but unfortunately the pup died after 3 week. It was no fun at all looking at the small thing, which we could see did not develop the right way - it didn't get that much hair, and never opened its eyes. We knew it never had a chance, but didn't know what else to do.

A few days after the pup died Mini got a litter of five pups where all was healthy, but unfortunately we are now in the bad situation again. We have only one pup. I could not bare to go through the same situation again.

Please help us, what can we do to help the small pup?
