I don't know anything about Oxbow. But I do know that
seed mixes are perfectly fine for gerbils if they do
not contain too many sunflower seeds and have the
right fat and protien content. Seed mixes offer them a
variety of foods, rather than one same boring taste
every day, every meal. That is probably why it is hard
to get them to eat only it, especially if they have
ever been exposed to seed mixes. Everyone compliments
me on how healthy and beautiful my gerbils are, and
they have been fed solely on seed mixes. I usually buy
two different brands though, and mix them together.
One bag has no sunflower seeds in it, the other has
some.

My Guinea pigs eat pellets alone, rather than the seed
mixes made for them, because I have read on many sites
that Guinea pigs should not be fed seed mixes or
pellet mixes containing hard colored pieces as these
are dangerous to them. HOWEVER, my guinea pigs get a
large variety of choices, because they are also fed
hay, and a wide variety of vegetables, with occasional
fruit treats.
