No very bad idea. The male will mate with every female that will let him.
Also when one of the females has pups the other females will get jelous and
steal the babies which would leave to fighting which can result in the death
of the female(s)(please I speak from experience here do not do this) If you
want a clan make it all the same sex. if you want to breed then put together
the couple that you want in there own cage and let natural take over. Trust
me it is very heartbreaking to see a female who wanted babies enough that
she stolen them. For one she is gets hurt very badley for another when you
take the pup and give it back to his mom she is heartbroken which can cause
her not to get better. I just went through this a couple of days ago so
please learn from my mistake. I have no idea how that group you talked about
would work but I do know that it doesn't.

Subject: couple combos question

Wow -
I just joined and the list is 'ending' - but it's awesome to see
everyone rally to the cause.
Thanks to everyone for being there.. i've contemplated some gerbil
aquisitions and groupings and the suggestions have been varied
(personality diffs in gerbils???)but all so very welcome and helpful.
Of course this info is from experience of real gerbils..as op to
books that are written by who knows who with such vague generalities
along with staunch viewpoints based on ..what??... where did i read
how bleach even diluted can be really bad for gerbil glass but of
course it's mentioned in a particularly fastidious book.. i can't
believe the info passed to poor kids getting pet shop stock. You
guys should all write books and articles and keep getting the word
out. That is of course a big objective, and to promote gerbils as
the a perfect rodent pet :)

I heard of a 4 gerbil clan .. with a female couple, sisters and a
male/female couple. I am also curious about this combo for us here..
Question:
has this worked for anyone and will the male only mate with the one?
Perhaps when the female seems pregant they could be moved to the
other side of an open-scent plexiglass wall then everyone divided as
boys and girls up to about 4 on each side (35 gallon), new homes for
the rest.
