Hi Vicky, Welcome. They get a bath from grooming themselves and each other. They do like a little chinchilla dust in a shallow ceramic dish to roll in though. Remove it after 15 minutes or it will become a potty.
To tame them try in the early evening (when they are most active) to remove all the boxes from the cage. Feed them by holding the seeds in your hand. Then rest your hand and arm in the tank and let them get used to your smell and structure. They may start climbing up onto you after several days. If not, but they seem to not be so terrified or skittish, try using two hands to herd one into a corner and lift him out. I let my gerbils use my arm as a ladder to a little play area -- now when they see me coming they leap onto me. Good luck, Donna ABC Gerbils www.abcgerbils.com --- Mel <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi, this is Vicky again! > I think I may have a problem with my gerbils as in > most places it says that > they should enjoy being held, however, when I put my > hand in their cage they > run away from it as if they are terrified.
