That message was from a company that sells software that you can use to
alter the HTML for e-mail addresses on your webpages. It sent mail to
this list because it found the GML address on a website somewhere.
Obviously if it could find the address, then any other spambot could and
can sent spam to the list.

I still don't understand why people think that Topica is anything to do
with this as Topica does not even know this list exists, never mind what
the address is.
