I need some information. We rescued a female gerbil several weeks ago. When we got her, she was having problems with her eyes not opening all of the time - like she had a cold or something. The vet gave us some Gentocyn Durafilm eyedrops and it seemed to work (especially after we got Digger a little boyfriend). The vet suggested it could be just stress and she would get better after she settled in. Tonight she seemed lethargic and unkempt. We took her to the emergency room and the doc said she may have pneumonia or lung cancer (since she is a year and a half). The also gave her some subcutaneous fluids because she was dehydrated. She is now sitting in her upper loft with her eyes closed and breathing hard. Frisky (her boyfriend) has gone up with her for now and is not displaying any signs of sickness - had the vet check him too. Is there anything else we can do besides the antibiotics, sub-Q fluids, and keeping her warm?
