I am very sorry to hear about your loss, but I am glad no suffering was involved. We have had our two girls for only ~ 13 months. We got them when they were about 5-6 weeks old. My husband and I know it is going to break our hearts to loose them some day. On a questionaire we filled out once it asked "How long do you want your pet to live?" and we answered "FOREVER!". I am glad that you had some forewarning and were able to be there with her in the end. That is the best we can all hope for.
