baldness

I have an elderly gerbil - nearly 4 years old - over the last two weeks he has begun to loose some of his hair on one side of his body.  I have washed him in vetsect repel shampoo and have put Ivomec in his ears - still  bald. His still does not look  'flaky'.  Anyone any experience of this?  If so, what was outcome.   Janet Courtney
