Hi!
I'd like to let you know, that J2SDK 1.5 (Tiger) contains several interesting things summarized in JSR 176 (http://www.jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=176).
Of special interest could be the following APIs: JSR-003 JavaTM Management Extensions (JMXTM) Specification - --> management in geronimo JSR-174 Monitoring and Management Specification for the JavaTM Virtual Machine - --> management in geronimo JSR-028 JavaTM SASL Specfication JSR-114 JDBC Rowset Implementations - --> generic JDBC adapter - --> EJB-QL JSR-199 JavaTM Compiler API - --> EJB wrapper code - --> JSP compiler JSR-200 Network Transfer Format for JavaTM Archives - --> remote J2EE client applications (maybe)
These JSRs could ease programming: JSR-014 Add Generic Types to the JavaTM Programming Language JSR-166 Concurrency Utilities - --> locks, semaphores, etc. JSR-201 Extending the JavaTM Programming Language with Enumerations, Autoboxing, Enhanced for loops and Static Import
JSR 201 is of very important interest, since nobody should use "enum" as an identified anymore, because it's a keyword in 1.5 (using "javac - -target 1.5").
Sorry, but I must not tell anything more, because I've signed a NDA with Sun.
