Just to expand this beyond Linux:
Windows - The FFmpeg build (currently version 0.8) used with the
get_iplayer installer is the ffmpeg.org version, so no problem there for
the present. As noted in my earlier post, this may require an upgrade
if get_iplayer itself changes, but the installer will manage that for you.
OSX - Homebrew, MacPorts and Fink all provide the ffmpeg.org version, so
no problems there either. The Homebrew build is currently version
0.10.2, while MacPorts and Fink are at version 0.7.11.
