Unless I am misunderstanding your problem, the solution seems trivial. Dim a recordset, and do your query via SQLselect. What happens next depends upon what (if anything) is returned by the recordset, and nothing happens with respect to program execution UNTIL the recordset is returned. Subsequent execution depends only upon what you decide to do (in code) with the recordset. To me, it seems like 'time' has no business even being a consideration here.
