I am writing a routine that steps through all the available serial
ports on a Mac. If the port is available (i.e. not in use by
something else), I am sending a character, waiting for a response.
If it times out or is not the correct response, I move on to the next
port.
My question is this: Does the serial control have to be opened for
each iteration of the check? Or does the control only have to be
opened once, despite stepping and checking each port number?
