For your timer situation: In your project, create a new class, name it MyTimer. Then, set its super as "Timer". Now you can instantiate MyTimer anywhere in code, just like any other regular object. Be sure to save a reference to it, as I'm not sure the timer would still fire if it's been orphaned: the timer would probably be deleted instead.
