This is probably the problem of Cygwin 1.3.19 with mixing / and \.  I
looked around a bit but did not find out whether that Cygwin behaviour
is intentional or would be considered a bug.  Since I don't know and
cannot test how to do it such that Cygwin 1.3.19 would not have
problems with either / or \ path separators in various places, I did
not take action, and consider Cygwin 1.3.19 unsupported.

So, if you want to use 1.3.19, apply the patch we discussed last time,
or just configure with

configure --build i686-linux
