If others are also working on this, it would be awesome to discuss ideas and share results. It might be important to note that I am interested in more than digital waveforms; my use for GHDL is a general purpose discrete-event simulator, and I see VHDL as a rich modelling language capable of more than just digital logic hardware models. (Imagine modelling a factory or a supply-chain). That being said, I did spend the first seven years of my career as an ASIC design engineer and I am certainly sensitive to the needs and perspectives of that use-case.
