Actually Linux has too many copyright holders for this to be practical, whereas the FSF's policy of copyright assignment does make it vulnerable to this sort of hostile takeover: there's only one entity to be bribed, bought out or otherwise acquired. The copyright assignment by the FSF has some nice wording which would allow each asignee to sue the FSF (if they try to make it non-free software for example), the worst that could happen is that they release the program under a free software license...
