For those of us lucky enough to love her as our dear sister and friend, Anabel is the strongest, most fiery and passionate woman we know. Her blog ( http://dizzychick76.multiply.com/) is testament to that, but oh, the woman herself is a bright, burning phoenix, yes, a rock goddess, yet made of very real flesh and bone. She figures as one of the most important female musicians in our local industry, having worked with such bands as Tropical Depression, Electrikoolaid, and Analog. More than that, she is a great inspiration to many people, because she lives her life with such vigor and intensity, doing her best in everything that she does, be it as a focused, hard-working writer and editor, or as a dedicated mother to young 12-year-old Mischaela, or as a dutiful daughter and sister, or as an absolute whiz in the kitchen, or as a caring, loving friend. The world is that much brighter simply because she is in it, with us. She needs our help now. On the afternoon of January 1, 2009, while watching TV with her daughter and Reg, she had an aneurysm, which then resulted in subsequent massive brain hemorrhage. That night, around 9 PM, she underwent an operation that involved draining the blood clot in order to relieve the pressure on the brain. The surgery was a success. As of this writing (10:29 PM January 2), she is in stable condition, breathing on her own although the doctors are still keeping her on the respirator as a precautionary measure. She is still unconscious, and we are waiting for her to (please, oh please) wake up. A PLEA FOR HELP Brain surgery, as you can imagine, is not cheap. It may cost P500,000 or more, and she does not have anything even close to that. And as Katrina tells us in her blog, "Marlies said that her bill could easily reach a million; if she stays in the ICU for months, or if her medication and therapy after she is released are very expensive, then that number could balloon. As it is, the longer Anabel is sick, the higher the chances that she will lose things she has worked so hard for -- like her job and her new apartment. So please, even a little amount can make a difference." INFORMATION FOR VISITORS Visiting hours at MMC ICU are from 10 AM to 7 PM. There is a visitor's lounge outside the window where her bed is at, and people can only come in two at a time into the room. Please bring some kind of food that will not spoil easily for her caretakers and for the steady flow of guests who continue to visit her and her family night and day: meat pies, donuts, oranges, juices, etc. No alcohol please! :) VIRTUAL VISITING ROOM Please post your thoughts and well wishes for Anabel and her family on this page.
