Interesting idea but how/when will someone be able to toss away the XCF files they no longer need for projects they worked on ages ago. For a certain group of users this would just fill up their hard drive with XCF files they may not even realize are being saved so they wouldn't be aware of the need to removed XCF files for old projects.
