BTW, I was going to post this to Bugzilla but I cannot actually duplicate the
behavior in my GIMP 2.8 .
- Import image -> Image Properties = shows imported filename/size
- new image -> save XCF -> Image Properties = shows XCF filename/size
- new image -> export -> Image Properties = shows exported filename/size
