Hi!

First of all, you should subscribe to the list if you want to see the answers (I explicitly "Answer all" now, but usually we'd only answer to the list) and also because otherwise an admin of the list must manually accept each of your emails (as I just did, which is why it came 2 days late). Thanks. :-)

This happens almost every day to me.  Its been this way since the beginning, I think.

I tried to type '200' into the dialog box just now, for instance- to try to get a 200% scale on one axi,. and due to desired logic of keeping the existing values there. .actually I somehow got 102000 on one axis.  SO it tries to allocate too much video memory (or something) and I lose all my unsaved work.

I assume you mean while using the scale tool? (not Layers > Scale Layer menu item), which is why you get on-the-fly scaling happening (if I understand)?

Anyway when I tried right now, even setting a huge value, the preview was nearly instant. If I try to apply it, I even get a warning telling me "Applying the transformation will result in an item that is over 409 times larger than the image." So it looks to work quite OK.

Was the preview fast? When was it hanging exactly? Directly when over-scaling by mistake, while showing the preview? Or when actually applying the scale? And didn't you get a message telling you you were apparently over-scaling similar to the one I just copy-paster?

I tested both the stable and dev versions.

Which version of GIMP were you working on by the way?

Maybe we could get thos dimensions to scale no larger than some X % at a time? Or warn the user before creating a giant texture?   Like the current behavior for
perspective transformation. I think.

Well in my tests, it does look like it works OK already and we even already get a warning when inputting huge values. So it looks like it works already like you would like it to work.

Maybe there is a bug somewhere?

Jehan

In general great work though.  Thanks!
