How was your printer configured in cups? (cups stands for common unix printing system). I use Linux too (Gentoo) and for printing cups + gutenprint. I'm sure Suse has gutenprint-gimp in it's repository. You'll have to configure it yourself. If you haven't done this or don't know how to do it just holler.
