I made hard work of that. You can cut a select operation out, by fuzzy select the inside of the E and grow by say 3 pixels.
However a better way is to find the font used: er-kurier-1251-bold-italic Generate paths from the characters. Adjust the paths. Then you can Select -> Path to Selection and fill with any colour. As a vector, the path scales also to any size, large or small. All sorts of things you can do.
