If you have really old kit you could also run https://lubuntu.me a
flavor of Ubuntu designed for low spec kit. If you need to still run
windows programs you could also use VirtualBox (
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads) and run XP in that
environment. I run Ubuntu & Lubuntu they are great on old and new kit.
