From your description, I'd venture to say you have a 4K display. GIMP
2.10 has extremely limited support for HiDPI displays for technical
reasons that GIMP developers have little control over (I can elaborate
if you want me to). GIMP 2.99.x beta builds and upcoming GIMP 3.0 have
full support for HiDPI displays. You can try 2.99.6 at your risk:
