Clicking "Help" in the Preferences dialog where you set the title brings you to the page of the manual which also describes the format codes.
Appendix C. Eeek! a help is missing
is no description of the format codes ...
(I just downloaded and installed the help package again from Jernej's page to make sure I do not have an old version)
