Hi,

Yeah, hold that thought, I know git doesn't support partial clones, that's
not what I'm referring to.

Why is there no way to create a partial working tree? Do a full clone, save
the metadata to all files into the .git directory since needed, but only
create a working copy based on a subdirectory of the content root?

Although I'm sure the reasons for doing that may not be entirely clear, I'd
like to be able to do the same thing for submodules.

Say I have a dozen of projects, and all of them have a config directory
with a bunch of configuration files.

Now I want to create a git repository that uses these config files, and I
would like to create a directory under it, that would contain the
configuration directories of the projects. But I can't, because the whole
working directory is copied there.

Proj1/
  foo/
  bar/
  config/
    proj1.json

Proj2/
  foo/
  bar/
  config/
    proj2.json

SomeAwesomeAggregator
  /configs
    /proj1
      proj1.config
    /proj2
      proj2.config

So basically my question of interest: Is there any technical reason why
this is not possible? If not, where can I submit a feature request?

  Akos Vandra
