So apparently, git doesn't want to refer to a sha unless you give at least 4 hex digits.
Is there an option to turn it down to 3?


Git will demeand that the sha1/oid is unique. Plus there is a config option, and an internal minimun.

On the Git/Linux rep I think they are now at 12 chars! Who knows what it is in the Windows mega-repo.

summary : that's a soft No.
