Hi all! I hope that somebody can answer this question without me searching
through the source code. I have googled the hell out it, and can't find an
answer, so here goes:

When I run something like "git commit" and it creates a new "git gc"
background process, is that process detached from the controlling shell.
In particular, can I safely exit that shell without waiting for the "gc"
process to exit? I believe that the answer must be yes, but has anybody
actually verified or answered this?

Thanks much!

-Nick
