mkhon opened a new pull request #872: HivePreparedStatement.setString: fix backslash escaping URL: https://github.com/apache/hive/pull/872 HivePreparedStatement.setString handles backslash escaping incorrectly. So using setString with strings ending with backslash ("xxxxx\") lead to syntax error.
