I experienced these "assertion 'doc != NULL' failed" errors constantly when I had overview set to appear on the left, even though I'm on Geany 1.37.1 (built using GTK+ v3.22.30 & GLib v2.56.4) which is supposed to support this. I didn't use split pane. Moving overview back to the right eliminated the errors. I'm on Peppermint 10, which is Ubuntu-based, with XFCE/LXDE desktop.
