That said, assuming the lexer is to conform to [POSIX Shell standards](https://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/007904875/utilities/xcu_chap02.html) ([`zsh` uses the normal shell lexer in Geany](https://github.com/geany/geany/blob/d9f8cdbad58d09f0c18ca8acccb49209263018f0/data/filetype_extensions.conf#L67)), it might not be an actual bug, specifically this: > A backslash that is not quoted shall preserve the literal value of the > following character, with the exception of a <newline>. If a > <newline> follows the backslash, the shell shall interpret this as line > continuation. The backslash and <newline>s shall be removed before > splitting the input into tokens.
