advice2020 created an issue (geany/geany#4434) If anyone is interested I am hoping to get a little input about something. I had some ideas that might help clean up / clarify some things in `Preferences - Interface` section. The problem I am having that I need developer input on is that I have two approaches for this section. One is similar to the current layout of this section and the other is a different approach that I just wanted to ask about here.
I do not think this idea is going to be considered, so for now I am just going to give an overview of the idea. If there is interest in this topic, then I can make more of an official post about this with more information about the topic. Currently `Preferences - Interface` section contains 3 tabs. `Interface` `Notebook tabs` `Toolbar` The decision to organize many of these settings by "Type" of setting does make sense and can remain as is. However, that approach could also make things a little confusing. I was wondering, what about changing the tabs based on the components themselves, similar to how the "Toolbar" tab already follows this. Tab names would consist of the following.... `Editor` `Toolbar` (already exists and is complete) `Sidebar` `Message Window` If user wants to change something about the interface, they might more likely have the component/component name in mind that they are looking to change a setting for. To me, going this route can make it more clear for the user to know what settings are available for each component. Each components tab will contain..... -Show/hide setting -Font setting -Notebook tabs setting -Positioning setting -And more specific settings for each component Would give more room for each section, for example the "Sidebar" section which currently is a little compacted and not as clear on "Symbol" and "Documents" sidebar sections. This could eliminate the double naming `Interface - Interface` Also, for now lets just say that maybe some new settings will be also be added to these sections / component name based tabs. I might have some new settings ideas to mention and I am sure other users probably have mentioned some as well. This will offer more room for them. Anyways, I will stop here. If developers could just give a yes or no answer about this. It is okay if not interested, this would just be helpful so then I can know how to proceed with other posts.
