mixmastamyk left a comment (geany/geany-plugins#1558) Hi, mine doesn't show the highlights on the side. The view menu apparently calls this the "markers margin." Perhaps when the margin is disabled it highlights the line background instead. Similar to how your current line is highlighted in the screen shots above.
Imagine the whole line a deep green or red and why it is quite difficult to find a single color that is readable for both light and dark themes.
