Hi @westonpace, Apologies, I made this as a followup task for #36167. One reviewer [commented](https://github.com/apache/arrow/pull/36167#discussion_r1234856883) that it would be nice to include a test point for this case, but the PR was already merged. I meant to submit a PR for this last week, but it slipped my mind. I just pushed my branch with the changes [here](https://github.com/mathworks/arrow/tree/GH-36173).
