OK so I'm guessing it is related now. The pattern I saw before on Linux was that anything with an ARROW_FRIEND_EXPORT in its declaration needed ARROW_EXPORT in the definition. My current guess is there must be something specific to macOS and what gets imported for parquet reading where that relationship between the macros is not maintained.
