I think that makes sense. I've written essentially all of that inside of [`pyo3-arrow`](https://docs.rs/pyo3-arrow). E.g. https://github.com/kylebarron/arro3/blob/0c59fc9e6825678e247ae5375a67301621cfbf48/pyo3-arrow/src/ffi/from_python/ffi_stream.rs#L1-L5 You could probably copy most of it verbatim and just add some more tests.
