@parker-cassar thank you for your patience :) I've been thinking about this a bit and perhaps we could convert to UUID in c++ and avoid awkward Python compat layer? Pandas had a [UUD type proposal](https://github.com/pandas-dev/pandas/pull/64839) that seems stalled but could get completed.
