Closing this. #11219 already sends infallible numeric casts, including Float16 ↔ Float32, through `unary`, so the `unary_opt` and validity-bitmap cost is gone. The remaining idea was a `half` slice conversion for those two directions. `arrow-cast` depends on `half` with default features off, so a normal build does not get runtime `fp16` / `f16c` detection, and the 3.4×–6.3× numbers were measured against the old `unary_opt` path. #11245 and #11244 are closed on that basis. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
