# Which issue does this PR close? Closes #11301. # Rationale for this change Casting a shredded Variant null or non-object value to a struct can return a present struct with null children. Equivalent unshredded input returns a null struct, or a cast error for non-object values in strict mode. # What changes are included in this PR? Use the existing row conversion for non-object shredding schemas. For shredded objects, apply the object validity to the parent before extracting children and check non-object fallback values in strict mode. Child fields continue to use recursive shredded extraction. # Are these changes tested? Regression tests compare shredded and unshredded conversions across primitive, object, and list shredding schemas. They cover nulls, empty objects, missing fields, strict errors, sliced and empty inputs, nested paths, and all four list layouts. The existing nested fixture now marks its documented object rows as valid parents, keeping missing child fields distinct from missing objects. # Are there any significant user-facing changes? No public API changes. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service. To respond to the message, please log on to GitHub and use the URL above to go to the specific comment.
